The boy with the bread

Peeta Mellark. Peeta Mellark! Oh, no, not Peeta Mellark!
- Katniss Everdeen

A baker's son, Peeta Mellark is a kind hearted soul. Unlike Katniss Everdeen, he dosen't live in the seam. He bakes bread, and now he's the boy Disrict 12  tribute in the Games. Katniss has only seen him once, and that meeting saved her life.

Katniss' father died around two weeks ago and her mother isn't helping the family. Heartbroken and depressed, she can barely eat. Soon Katniss' family will die, so today in the rain, she holds tattered clothes to trade for food. Searching the bakery's garbage cans, she longs for rotten vegetables or burnt bread. Peeta's mean mother yells at Katniss, saying she dosen't want people pawing through her property! It's them she realizes she burnt the bread. Scowling, she calls Peeta to give the bread to the pigs.

Katniss leans on a tree, knowing she can't go home without food. Peeta watched Katniss scavenging the bakery the whole time. Without shifting his gaze to Katniss, he tosses her the bread. Then he leaves. Will his loving spirit be able to face the Games?
